JPSC Syllabus 2025: Exam Pattern (Prelims & Mains), PDF Download & Preparation Strategy

 Overview of JPSC Exam Stages

The JPSC Combined Civil Services Exam comprises three stages: PrelimsMains and Interview.
Prelims consists of two objective papers (General Studies Paper I & II, 200 marks each; total 400).
Mains includes six descriptive papers (total 950 marks) plus an interview (100 marks).
JPSC Prelims has broader topics similar to UPSC but places extra emphasis on Jharkhand‑specific content (history, culture, governance).

JPSC Prelims Syllabus & Pattern

The Prelims stage features two compulsory General Studies papers (200 marks each; 100 objective questions per paper; 2 hours each).

Paper I – General Studies I (200 marks | 100 Qs)

  • Section A: History of India – 15 Qs
    • Ancient India (5 Qs)
    • Medieval India (5 Qs)
    • Modern India (5 Qs)
  • Section B: Geography of India – 10 Qs
    • Physical Geography (3 Qs)
    • World Geography (3 Qs)
    • Social & Demographic Geography (2 Qs)
    • Economic Geography (2 Qs)
  • Section C: Indian Polity & Governance – 10 Qs
    • Constitution of India (4 Qs)
    • Public Administration & Governance (4 Qs)
    • Panchayati/Municipal Systems (2 Qs)
  • Section D: Economics & Sustainable Development – 10 Qs
    • Basic Features of Indian Economy (4 Qs)
    • Development Issues & Economy of India (4 Qs)
    • Globalization & Sustainable Development (2 Qs)
  • Section E: Science & Technology – 15 Qs
    • General Science & Development (6 Qs)
    • Agriculture & Technology (3 Qs)
    • Information & Communication Technology (6 Qs)
  • Section F: Jharkhand‑Specific Questions – 10 Qs

    History, Society, Culture & Heritage of Jharkhand

  • Section G: National & International Current Events – 15 Qs
  • Section H: Miscellaneous – 15 Qs

    Human Rights, Environment, Sports, Awards, UN Agencies, etc.

JPSC Mains Syllabus & Pattern

The Mains stage comprises six papers:

  • Paper I (Qualifying): General Hindi & English – 100 marks (qualifying; minimum 30 required)
  • Paper II : Language & Literature (choice of a local language) – 150 marks
  • Paper III: Social Sciences (History & Geography) – 200 marks
  • Paper IV: Indian Constitution, Polity, Public Administration & Good Governance – 200 marks
  • Paper V: Indian Economy, Globalization & Sustainable Development – 200 marks
  • Paper VI: General Science, Environment & Technology – 200 marks

Note: Papers III–VI total 800 marks and Language Paper II 150 Marks count towards ranking; Papers I is only qualifying. For those coming from UPSC &  BPSC backgrounds, There are no optional subjects.

Preparation Strategy

Watch Strategy Discussion Video to Qualify prelims in 90 Days 

  • Understand Syllabus & Plan: Download the official Prelims & Mains syllabus PDFs in English and Hindi. Create a 60‑day timetable prioritizing high‑weight topics.
  • Conceptual Study & Notes: Use standard texts and NCERTs to build fundamentals. Make concise notes of key facts and write bullet‑point answers for mains topics.
  • Practice & Revision: Regularly solve mock tests and previous‐year papers under timed conditions. Analyze errors and adjust your strategy. No negative marking: attempt all questions.
  • State‑Specific Focus: Prepare dedicated notes on Jharkhand history, culture, economy and governance. Update daily on state current affairs to cover niche content.
  • Current Affairs: Stay updated on national & Jharkhand events. Note government schemes, policies and development projects for Paper II.
  • Final Revision & Exam Day Tips: In the last week, prioritize repeated revision over new topics. Practice OMR sheet filling and maintain accuracy; leave no question blank.
