Overview of JPSC CCE Exam Stages

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services Exam is conducted in three stages:

  • Prelims: Two objective papers, 200 marks each (total 400).
  • Mains: Six descriptive papers (total 950 marks for ranking + 100 qualifying).
  • Interview: Personality Test for 100 marks.

JPSC Prelims covers broad General Studies and aptitude, with an extra emphasis on Jharkhand‑specific topics (history, culture, governance). Mains has no optional papers; all candidates answer the same six papers.

JPSC Prelims Syllabus & Pattern

Prelims consists of two compulsory objective papers. Each paper is 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. There is no negative marking.

JPSC Mains Syllabus & Pattern

The Mains stage comprises six descriptive papers of three hours each. The qualifying paper (Paper I) requires 30% to pass; Papers II–VI count towards final ranking (950 marks).

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Mains examination is a descriptive, written exam that determines final selection for state civil services.

Detailed Mains Syllabus Breakdown

Paper I: General Hindi & General English (100 marks)

Qualifying only. Minimum 30 marks to qualify.

  • Essay Writing: 300–350 words on social, economic, or cultural topics
  • Precis & Comprehension: Passage summary and inference questions
  • Grammar & Usage: Tenses, voice, narration, sentence correction
  • Translation: Hindi to English and English to Hindi
  • Sectional Split: Hindi (50 marks) + English (50 marks)

Paper II: Language & Literature (150 marks)

Qualifying only. Minimum 30% marks to qualify.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

3.1 Prelims Strategy

  • Syllabus Analysis & Timetable: Break down the syllabus topic‑wise; allocate daily slots for each section.
  • Core Resources:
    • NCERTs (Class 6–12): History, Geography, Economics, Polity
    • Standard Texts: R.S. Sharma, Satish Chandra (History); G.C. Leong (Physical Geography); Laxmikanth (Polity); Ramesh Singh (Economy)
    • Jharkhand‑Specific: Local history & culture by reputed state authors
  • Practice & Revision:
    • Daily MCQ practice from previous‑year papers.
